Admission of international applicants

International applicants can be admitted to SPbU both to places:

As specified in the Governmental decree of Russian Federation (№ 2150 as of December 18, 2020 «On Establishing an Education Quota for Foreign Nationals and Stateless Citizens in the Russian Federation»), foreign citizens are provided an opportunity to take part in an Competition for state-funded educational places at Universities in Russian Federation, including SPbU (funded from the budget of Russian Federation). Information about order of admission will be available in the section «For applicants on government-funded basis» in the terms defined by the Government of the Russian Federation.

Every student coming from a foreign country to study at St Petersburg University becomes part of the International Students Club at St Petersburg University. The Club represents their rights and interests at the University, promotes cultural exchange and helps students to become part of a large academic family.


On the website of the University Admissions Committee, there have been published the lists of applicants who are recommended for admission in 2022 based on the results of an Open Competition among Foreign Nationals, Stateless Citizens, and Compatriots Residing Abroad Applying for Admission to St Petersburg State University to Government-Funded Places in 2022 within the Framework of the Quota Established by Decree No 2150 of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 18 December 2020.

Economic education is traditionally in demand among St Petersburg University applicants, and the number of international applicants is steadily growing. Programmes in the field of ‘Economics’ launched at the University will help students become highly qualified specialists who meet the requirements of the modern market and business.


The bachelor’s programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ trains specialists who are proficient in teaching methodology and teaching techniques of Russian as a foreign language.


St Petersburg University master’s programme ‘Sociology in Russia and China’ has no rivals in Russian higher education institutions. It trains specialists capable of conducting comparative sociological research on the development processes of two societies: Russian and Chinese.
